The physical properties of magnetic domain walls and electrical conductivity of permalloy thin films under external magnetic fields were studied. Using a magnetic force microscope (MFM), we observed the variation of domain configurations with the change of applied magnetic field for different film thicknesses of 245, 320, and 415 nm. A superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) was exploited to measure the magnetization loop for the applied magnetic field either parallel or perpendicular to the normal direction of the surface. We also found that the resistivity increases significantly as the electrical current conduction changed from parallel to perpendicular to the domain walls. 相似文献

Future advances in designing bioactive materials, such as antithrombotic coatings for cardiovascular stents, will require widely applicable and robust methods of surface modification. In this paper, we report on the development of multifunctional polymer coatings made by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) copolymerization. Polymer coatings of various [2.2]paracyclophane derivatives were co‐deposited in controlled ratios and their chemical composition verified by FT‐IR and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Furthermore, preliminary biocompatibility of these coatings was assessed using human umbilical vein endothelial cells and 3T3 murine fibroblasts. The parallel immobilization of two different antithrombotic biomolecules onto a CVD‐based copolymer is also demonstrated by orthogonal immobilization strategies.

This study develops a high-precision, non-destructive measurement technique based on a laser interferometer for determining the alcohol concentration of a liquid solution from its refractive index. The optical metrology system is employed to measure the refractive indexes of samples with known alcohol concentrations ranging from 5% to 95%. By applying regressional analysis to the experimental results, an analytical expression is derived to describe the quadratic relationship between the refractive index and the alcohol concentration. An excellent agreement is observed between the experimentally determined values of the alcohol concentration and the analytically predicted results. For an assumed laser interferometer resolution of 1 nm, the measurement resolution of the proposed metrology system is found to be at least F = 0.0025%, which is significantly better than that of typical stereometry methods (approximately 1.0%) Furthermore, it is shown that the measurement resolution improves as the alcohol concentration reduces. 相似文献

The synthesis of potential fluorescent active 4‐(5‐aryl‐1,3,4‐oxadiazol‐2‐yl)phenylhydrazine derivatives was accomplished in three steps. The key step was the dehydration cyclization of 1,2‐diacylhydrazines to form the 1,3,4‐oxadiazole ring by use of acetic anhydride/perchloric acid mixture as the dehydrating agent. The purpose of this paper is to apply a numerical technique in solving problems involving light beams in a random medium. The technique starts by generating numerically sample media with prescribed statistical properties. Rays are then traced in these sample media and the ray statistics are compiled. These statistics are utilized to find the mean square displacement and distribution of a beam. Problems on beam broadening and distortion of radiation patterns are considered. Fluctations in wave amplitude and phase are also investigated. When possible, the numerical results are compared with the analytical results and experimental results.It seems that the numerical technique has a potential to solve a great variety of problems. This is because it does not have severe restrictive conditions as those imposed on the analytic formulation. For example the technique is equally applicable when the irregularities are anisotropic, or when the background medium is inhomogeneous, or when the background is anistropic, or when there exist background wind. This paper describes several combinatorial models for Laguerre, Charlier, and Hermite polynomials, and uses them to prove combinatorially some classical formulas. The so-called “Italian limit formula” (from Laguerre to Hermite), the Appel identity for Hermite polynomials, and the two Sheffer identities for Laguerre and Charlier polynomials are proved. We also give bijective proofs of the three-term recurrences. These three families form the bottom triangle in R. Askey's chart classifying hypergeometric orthogonal polynomials. 相似文献
